Looks to me like this is a day for positive affirmation! Let’s get our spirits soaring. What could you do to get that “top of the world” feeling? Dance? Hike a mountain? Call a dear friend?

Occasionally it seems we have to fool ourselves with a little trickery to improve the mood of our day. Why not? An elevated joyous mood brings creativity. Creativity can manifest itself as all manner of wonderful things, perhaps even a miracle, large or small!

Through the years I have used hundreds of memorized affirmations. Sometimes I would shout them out loud just to “wake me up”. I offer you a few of those that have served me well:

Just a couple of weeks ago, I decided I needed “my waterfall”. I live in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Only a short distance from my home there is the beautiful Tanyard Creek waterfall. It sits at the end of a quarter mile hike in a park adjacent to one of our golf courses. I love the energy of water; lakes, rivers, streams. So I drove to the park.

It was midweek. Surely, I thought, the park will be nearly empty. A heavy downpour the day before would insure a fine flow of water at the falls. But, surprisingly, when I arrived at the park I noticed there was a very large group of people in the pavilion. In fact, the parking lot had almost no empty spaces. I ignored all of that and walked the short trail to the waterfall.

I was looking forward to stretching out on the bench beside the waterfall for a quiet meditation. However, shortly after I arrived at the falls, I was approached by a group of four laughing, joking people. They asked if I would be willing to give them a hand.

Curious, I asked what I could do. They explained they were part of a larger group of WalMart employees who were engaged in a sort of scavenger hunt. Their current task was to spell out the word “TEAM” by using their bodies to form each of the letters. They were told to return with a photograph of their “T” “E” “A” “M”.

They wanted my help because they were short one person to complete the team since one of the four had to take the picture. I was asked to be the “T” in team. I agreed to help. We lined up and took our places. I took the wrong end of the line first! That would have been “EAMT”! Nonetheless, that is how I became the “T” in TEAM.

The four departed after thanking me for my help. What do you think? Was I upset because my meditation never happened? Did I resent the intrusion? No, quite the contrary, their good humor and laughter lifted my spirits. I was decidedly more upbeat for hours afterwards.

If we are able to flex just a little with changing circumstances, a world of innovation and new ideas are free to come to us. It is true that no matter how carefully we outline our route or how regimented we try to be, our spirit and soul partner with their own direction.

By allowing some leeway in our pursuit of our chosen goals, there can be amazing new paths allowing greater accomplishment and success. Forward motion sometimes requires a jog or a tangent in the roadway.

My friend and I just got back from a camping trip. Did we lie under the stars in sleeping bags? Well, no, we did have a large tent. But we did lie directly on the tent floor on the ground. Oops, did I say there was an inflatable mattress on the tent floor?

As I was saying, we were out there roughing it! Of course, our campground was a well organized place with hot showers and electricity. That doesn’t count as modern convenience does it?

Then again I have to admit we brought an electric coffee pot and kept commiserating that we didn’t think of the electric skillet. It was a bit chilly at night, but we just turned on our electric heater.

Why am I telling you about our overly coddled camping trip? Simply because it brought to mind what “roughing it” actually might mean in regard to how we live our overly rationalized lives here on earth. Many times we chart our course or make our decisions based on earth knowledge and experience rather than true wisdom.

Could “roughing it” mean we choose to ignore the in-depth information that is readily available from our spirit and our soul?

Perhaps, we rough our way through our lives because we are too proud of our own human abilities to ask for the help of our guides and teachers. Does it seem foolish to anyone of you when we do not seek help from our personal angels?

Yes, I acknowledge that we are incarnated on the planet to learn our lessons and progress. However, I do not believe that we must do everything the hard way. It makes sense to me that if creating a closer connection with our highest energies brings a smoother, simpler life path and more accomplishment; we ought to forge that link!

I used to believe that the only dream that had applicable value was one that I accurately interpreted at once the next morning or at least shortly after. In the past I put great value on carefully keeping my nightly dream journal. I thought that journaling was the only way to extract help from my personal dream maker.

Although I still enjoy recording my dream contents to review at a later time, I have had to revise my opinion about the necessity of interpretation. I now know with absolute certainty that there are dreams of such importance that my subconscious carefully stores away their meaning until such time as those dreams can successfully guide me.

It seems it does not matter at all that I have no memory of the dream in my waking mind. It does not matter if I made note of all the players and all the action. Nor does it matter if I initially misinterpreted the subject of my vision.

Let me recount one of my “not-interpreted dreams”. My late husband and I were sound asleep in our lake front home in Arkansas. I woke in a terrible state, sweating, panting from a dream sequence. I felt I had been attacked my large purple stinging blobs. My husband and I talked for awhile. Neither of us had even a vague idea of what that dream could mean and returned to sleep.

Now it is two or three months later and we have purchased a home in the panhandle region of Florida. We moved into the house on a steamy hot day in mid July. My husband was busy with some repairs when I noticed our new swimming pool was almost over run with vegetation. The privacy fence around the pool was having a stressful time of supporting heavily laden grape vines as well as some bushy evergreens.

I am an avid swimmer, so allowing growth to overshadow the pool was unacceptable. I decided to take action to clean up the fence. Oddly enough, disregarding the outside temperature, I dressed for that activity in my heaviest pair of jeans, a long sleeved shirt, boots, a large hat and sunglasses.

I soon realized why I had overdressed in such a peculiar way. In less than a minute while I was busy clipping back the grape vines with grapes falling everywhere, a virtual cloud of wasps flew straight for me. I jumped into the pool, boots, hat, sunglasses, shears and all. I sustained not even one sting. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

Do you see the message? Yes, standing in the pool, I quickly remembered the dream of months ago. The stinging purple blobs were a kind of conglomerate picture of the large purple grapes and the attacking wasps. How clever are our dreams and how diligent in trying to help!
